GenAI browser extensions are tools that integrate generative AI capabilities directly into the browsing experience. This means users can directly interact with AI without leaving the webpage, making workflows faster and more efficient. These tools assist with writing, code generation, answering questions, or automating repetitive tasks. They are intuitive, easy to use and enhance user productivity. However, they can pose severe security risks as they access and transmit sensitive browsing data to external AI services.

• Data Leakage: direct access to sensitive web content, like CRM or email causes leaks
• Bypassing Security Controls: ​circumvent firewall/network tools that restrict GenAI use
• Insufficient Permissions Controls: corporate information can be processed/used on non-corporate accounts
• Uncontrolled Data Processing: data is processed on remote LLMs without the organization knowing who has access to it 
• LLM Training: Sensitive data used in training LLMs can inadvertently be memorized and exposed during model outputs, leading to data exposure
